The Lord’s Prayer: Part 3 “Give us this day our daily bread” -Matthew 6:11

Thoughts of tomorrow can come like a wave drowning us in worry, fear, and anxiety. Jesus taught us to focus on TODAY and to not worry about tomorrow. God’s grace is sufficient. We need our daily bread for THIS DAY! This MOMENT!

We miss so much living in the highs and lows of yesterday. We hold on to regrets, pains, hurts, bitterness, and mistakes. Simultaneously, we cling to the fears that grip our hearts about tomorrow. We are frightened by the very thought of our worst nightmares and we carry the fear of tomorrow with us instead of living in today.

In the model prayer, Jesus put emphasis on what we need to get through our “today”. We are not encouraged to worry about tomorrow. Worrying will cause us to miss the beauty of today. Also, today has enough troubles of its own.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:25-27

"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:34
