All Sufficient Grace
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient
for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I
will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Most
of us have heard the saying “God knows how much you can bear”. We bear what God
gives us grace for. Things become unbearable when we are operating outside of
His grace by carrying things He has not equipped us to carry. When things feel
as though they are breaking you and you are tearing at the seams, you have to
seek the Lord about whether or not you are operating outside of His grace.
God
gave the children of Israel the manna they needed for the day (Exodus 16). They were instructed to not store up manna
for tomorrow. Sometimes we store up enough worries for a whole month. We rip
apart like a paper bag carrying several gallons of milk. Why? As a paper bag has
limitations, we do too! God is not to blame when we reluctantly carry things He
has not given us the grace to carry. He even commands us to cast all our cares
upon Him because He cares for us. It is important that we see that verse as
more than a suggestion! Carrying all our cares by ourselves can deceive us into
feeling that God does not care for us. If you are coming up a flight of stairs
with several heavy grocery bags that are bulging through and someone is
standing there watching you struggle, you would be right in thinking they do
not care enough to help you. God in His love gives us the freewill of deciding
if we want to cast our cares or not. While He commands us to cast our cares on
Him, He does not force us.
Similar to the children of Israel, who decided
to save up manna despite God’s orders, we will succumb to the consequences that
come from ignoring God’s command for us to cast our cares on Him. If we choose
to cast our cares on Him, we experience Him in a new way. The Israelites that saved
extra manna probably did not trust that God would provide for them the next
day. They worried and decided to take tomorrow in their own hands instead of
trusting God. When you trust God, you cast your cares, anxieties, and
insecurities on Him. He promises to give us peace that surpasses all
understanding.
Lord,
help us today to walk in today. We give our tomorrows and worries to You. We
choose to focus on today’s blessings instead of panicking about tomorrow. You
already have our tomorrow mapped out and You will never leave us nor forsake us.
Thank you for Your all sufficient grace that You pour upon us daily, in Jesus
name, Amen!
